Logbook of some Gozitan sailing trips Dinghy sailing

Anonymous writes
"Yesterday Gordon, Raymond and myself had the time of our lives planing Gordon's Fairwind boat. We wave rided a few waves.
At the end of it when Gordon and myself sailed we had a capsize and saw the boat sail off for around 50 metres. We swam like never before!
Great afternoon; Thanks Gordon and Raymond.

Logbook of some Gozitan sailing trips Great sailing and windsurfing in January

Anonymous writes
"Warm weather has favoured us this month.
We have had some good westerly and northwesterly winds allowing us to windsurf in Ramla and Mellieha over the last 10 days.
Today 8 sailors enjoyed sailing 4 dinghies in Qbajjar and it was a great time riding the waves.

Logbook of some Gozitan sailing trips Again one of us was in big trouble !
Kevin almost drowned today in Mellieha. Riding a breaking wave he fell and found himself trapped under his own sail. He was still in his trapeze and could not get out coz the lines were somehow twisted. While lying under water Kevin tried to free himself without success. Luckily some guys saw him and assisted him in his struggle. Believe it or not, but it needed six guys to rescue him. He was still under shock when I talked to him at the beach.

Since these incidents seem to become more frequent, I just want to tell everybody to be a bit more careful. Especially in winter we should pay more intention! The waves are powerful, the water is cold and the sea often develops very bad currents.

Nevertheless, Kevin was just unlucky. But as Joe was telling us, never sail alone!

Take care.

Logbook of some Gozitan sailing trips Turtling a Catamaran

simon writes
"For advice on turtling ( 'capsizing' with the mast straight down ) a catamaran (particularly a Hobbie 17 feet) within 5-10 minutes of starting to sail, , I know 2 experienced chaps. They will also tell you how to right it back up! There are various theories why they capsized, but to be honest it was a force 5-6 Southerly offshore wind. Well done folks. Keep sailing.

Logbook of some Gozitan sailing trips Big Swell no Wind

simon writes
"7th June Simon,Thomas and Josette attempted to sail from M'Forn round the west coast of Gozo to Mgarr harbour. However the wind was a weak NorthEast which was veering North and the swell was quite a nuisance. We decided to postpone the trip and take it easy. We promise the crew a more pleasant trip next time.
